JSW Law Hosts Third Graduation Ceremony

On this auspicious occasion, JSW Law proudly celebrated its 3rd Graduation Ceremony, honouring the accomplishments of 34 graduates from the Class of 2024. The event was graced by the presence of the Hon’ble Chief Justice of India, Dr. Justice Dhananjaya Y. Chandrachud, as the Chief Guest, and Her Royal Highness Princess Sonam Dechan Wangchuck, Honourable President of JSW Law. In attendance were members of the Governing Council, distinguished dignitaries, partners, and the families of the graduates.

This year’s cohort comprised 20 graduates from the 5-year LL.B/PGDNL programme and 14 from the 1-year Post Graduate Diploma in National Law (PGDNL) programme, all poised to contribute to Bhutan’s legal landscape. Armed with the knowledge and values nurtured at JSW Law, these graduates are ready to serve their communities and the nation with distinction.

The ceremony followed JSW Law’s unique, traditional format, which consisted of three key stages:

Wisdom Ceremony
The Wisdom Ceremony, held at Sherab Lhakhang, symbolized the profound knowledge acquired by the graduates throughout their academic journey. Each graduate was honored with a ceremonial scarf and graduation medal. His Eminence Tsugla Lopen Karma Rangdrol conferred Luung, the oral transmission of Bodhisattva Manjushri’s wisdom, upon the graduates.

Service Ceremony
In the second stage, the graduates, in solemn procession, made their way to the JSW Kachen. They circumambulated the pillar three times while reciting the Oath of Service, reaffirming their dedication to the values of Justice, Service, and Wisdom in service of the Tsa-Wa-Sum.

Justice Ceremony
The final stage marked the commencement of the graduates’ professional careers. Her Royal Highness Princess Sonam Dechan Wangchuck conferred degree certificates, and the Hon’ble Chief Justice of India presented the prestigious Mirror of Wisdom Award to Lekzang Pakila Lhaki for outstanding academic achievement and community service.

In her acceptance speech, Lekzang Pakila Lhaki shared:
“I am deeply humbled to receive the Mirror of Wisdom Award. This honor reflects not only my efforts but also the unwavering support I’ve had along the way. JSW Law has been a sanctuary for my dreams, a place where I’ve grown and been embraced by a nurturing community. Beyond the knowledge and skills, this institution has instilled in me a deep sense of purpose—a commitment to serve others and uphold justice. As we move forward, my peers and I carry with us the heart and spirit of JSW Law, guided by the values of justice, service, and wisdom.”

As Bhutan’s first and only law school, JSW Law plays a pivotal role in shaping the nation’s evolving legal system, equipping graduates with expertise in both Bhutanese and international legal principles. The presence of Hon’ble Dr. Justice Dhananjaya Y. Chandrachud and Her Royal Highness underscored the significance of JSW Law’s mission to promote justice and the rule of law on both national and regional levels.

The entire JSW Law community extends its heartfelt congratulations to the Class of 2024. We are confident that they will continue to be agents of positive change, embodying the values instilled in them during their time here.
