JSW Law Tashi Rabney Ceremony: Celebrating a Historic Milestone in Bhutan’s Legal Education Landscape

The Jigme Singye Wangchuck School of Law (JSW Law), held a small and meaningful tashi rabney ceremony of its campus in Pangbisa on 5 October 2023, coinciding with the auspicious 21st day of the Eighth month. The historic occasion was graced by His Majesty the King and His Majesty the Fourth King as the Highest Guests of Honor, Members of the Royal Family, Donors and Partners, and alumni.
The rabney ceremony was a celebration of the successful establishment of JSW’s permanent campus, which represents a significant milestone in His Majesty’s vision for a just society which upholds the rule of law. It was also a day of gratitude to Their Majesties, and to seek Their Majesties’ continued blessings. The campus is exemplary with state-of-the-art facilities incorporating sustainability in its impressive infrastructure, a beautiful combination of tradition and innovation.
Key highlights of the rabney ceremony included:
- Tashi Ngasoel: A memorable highlight of the rabney was the Tashi Ngasoel, which showcased the breathtaking and symbolic law school campus. This special ritual sought the blessings of His Majesty the King and His Majesty the Fourth King for the institution’s continued success into the future as well.
- Offering of Buelwa: HRH Princess Sonam Dechan Wangchuck, the President along with members of JSW Law, expressed their deepest gratitude and respects to Their Majesties the King through the symbolic offering of Buelwa followed by heartfelt musical tributes performed by notable artists and students.
JSW Law holds a unique position as the first and only law school in Bhutan, established by Royal Charter in 2015. Its pioneering curriculum sets it apart from law schools around the world, emphasizing Bhutanese values and traditions while providing a comprehensive legal education. Two batches of homegrown law students have graduated from the school, and are contributing significantly to the legal landscape of Bhutan.
