The Persuasive Mind: Reasoning, Arguing and Practising Law with Clarity

5 September 2025: The fourth edition of the series featured Shri Akhil Sibal, Senior Advocate at the Supreme Court of India, who shared valuable insights into the intellectual discipline and practical artistry of legal advocacy. Emphasizing clarity of thought, purposive legal reasoning, and the strategic presentation of arguments in court, Shri Sibal drew on his extensive experience representing leading corporations and navigating multifaceted areas of law. He inspired attendees with his focus on intellectual objectivity, critical self-assessment, and reflective practice—cornerstones for transformative legal practice and the professional development of young legal practitioners in Bhutan and beyond.

What Educational Policies for a Changing World and Ecological Transformation

1 August 2025: The JSW Law Research Centre hosted the third edition of its Wisdom for Future Talk Series at Paro College of Education under the theme: “What Educational Policies for a Changing World and Ecological Transformation.”

Professor (Dr.) Jean-Michel Blanquer, former French Minister of Education and Sports, delivered an inspiring keynote address. Recognizing Bhutan’s unique context as an ideal setting to reimagine global education, he outlined seven key principles for educational reform: Universal early education as the foundation for equity and effectiveness; Education as a grounding force in knowledge, history, culture, and identity; Education as a source of inspiration, offering hopeful visions for the future; Responsible use of technology and AI, with attention to risks such as screen addiction; Cultivation of ecological and human skills, including sustainability and systems thinking; Creation of educational communities with shared adult responsibility; The innovative potential of Bhutan’s Gelephu Mindfulness City project, blending education, ecology, technology, and community

Enlightened Leadership

On 16 May 2025, Her Royal Highness Princess Sonam Dechan Wangchuck, President of JSW Law, graced the Second Wisdom for the Future Talk Series, organized by the JSW Law Research Centre. The event featured Prime Minister Dasho Tshering Tobgay, who reflected on his book Enlightened Leadership, exploring Bhutan’s democratic transition. He highlighted wisdom, courage, and compassion—values symbolized by Rigsum Gonpo—and the role of Buddhist principles in leadership. A dialogue followed, emphasizing civic responsibility and His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo’s decision to devolve power.

Right to Education of Our Children in the 21st Century

On the 22 October 2024, JSW Law supported by the Office of Prime Minister and the Cabinet, launched the Wisdom for the Future Talk Series making the beginning of the 70th Birth Anniversary of His Majesty the Fourth King ahead of time. Nobel Peace Laureat Mr. Kailash Satyarthi talked on: “Right to Education of Our Children in the 21st Century” as the inaugural speaker of the Series.
