Empowering Bhutan’s Next Climate Champions: Navigating Global Negotiations for a Sustainable Future
POSTED ON - Sep 24th, 2024
The Climate Change and Environmental Law Centre at JSW Law is hosting a three-day workshop from 24th to 26th September 2024, aimed at preparing Bhutan’s next generation of climate negotiators. Titled “Empowering Bhutan’s Next Climate Champions: Navigating Global Negotiations for a Sustainable Future,” the workshop addresses the urgent need to bridge the knowledge gap left by the retirement of seasoned negotiators.
Through comprehensive training on negotiation principles, strategies, and the dynamics of international climate talks under the UNFCCC framework, participants will gain the skills necessary to effectively represent Bhutan in global forums such as the Conference of the Parties (COP). The event will also emphasise the importance of networking, coalition-building, and strategic engagement with key international stakeholders to ensure Bhutan’s climate interests are advanced on the global stage.
The workshop features prominent speakers from the UNFCCC Secretariat, Green Climate Fund, the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, the Ministry of Finance, and organisations like Citizens for Global Solutions. Supported by the Karuna Foundation and the Asia Foundation, the workshop is being held at JSW School of Law in Pangbisa, Paro, and is bringing together participants from government agencies, CSOs, and technical experts involved in climate policy and negotiations.
