Message From The Dean
Welcome to Jigme Singye Wangchuck School of Law (JSW Law). The first and only law school in the Kingdom of Bhutan, JSW Law prepares exceptional Bhutanese students to become future leaders of the country, with a focus on social justice and responsible stewardship of the environment.
JSW Law has started academic programme from our temporary campus in Taba since July 2017,and has admitted five classes of students so far. All have full 5-year scholarships from Royal Govement of Bhutan. JSW Law students hail from 39 of Bhutan’s 51 high schools and the majority – 65% are women. Students learn through a unique curriculum that blends the study of law with Buddhist values and a commitment to the Bhutanese principle of Gross National Happiness. JSW Law is proud of a course of studies that is in keeping with best international practices, but also uniquely Bhutanese.
They gain practical experience and help the local community through three innovative legal clinics that focus on Human Dignity, including cultural preservation; Entrepreneurship, reflecting growing commercial interests in Bhutan; and Alternative Dispute Resolution, which harnesses the power of a particularly Bhutanese method focused on conflict mediation. Our students excel in their studies, their advocacy, and their involvement in countless community projects.
Our faculty and staff are committed to assisting JSW Law students in developing the legal knowledge, critical thinking, writing, and problem-solving skills required for professional success.
I invite you to explore all aspects of JSW Law School through the website. Please contact us for more information or, better yet, pay us a visit.
