A Royal Vision for Legal Education

Jigme Singye Wangchuck School of Law is Bhutan’s first law school, established by Royal Charter of His Majesty The King on 21 February 2015.

The School was founded with a larger purpose than professional education alone. It was envisioned as an institution that would strengthen justice, the rule of law and democratic governance while educating lawyers deeply grounded in Bhutan’s values, institutions and aspirations.

Named in honour of His Majesty the Fourth King Jigme Singye Wangchuck, the School draws continuing inspiration from the philosophy of Gross National Happiness and the conviction that law and institutions must ultimately serve human dignity, social harmony and the wellbeing of present and future generations.

Under the visionary leadership of Her Royal Highness Princess Sonam Dechan Wangchuck, the Founding Honourable President, JSW Law has grown into a distinctive community of students, scholars, professionals and partners united by three enduring values:

JUSTICE · SERVICE · WISDOM
